Toro, Latin Kitchen & Lounge - Dinner

During our stay at Hotel Clio, we dined at their restaurant Toro, Latin Kitchen & Lounge for both dinner & their bottomless brunch. Toro specializes in Pan-Latin Cuisine & brings upscale Latin flair to Cherry Creek. Toro offers free valet parking.

For dinner, we were seated in the main dining room. Our server Aly was awesome - she had great energy and kept the drinks and conversation flowing.

For cocktails we had the Mercado Margarita. The Mercado Margarita is made with tanteo jalapeño tequila, passion fruit lime, agave nectar & hibiscus-rosemary foam. This is Toro’s most popular cocktail.

Mercado Margarita

Just look at that beautifully colored margarita - pink & red with touches of yellow. Upon first sip, the hibiscus rosemary foam was the first flavor I tasted - it gave the margarita a nice lemony tart, cranberry-like flavor. Once through the foam, the marg’s spicy sweetness started coming though. A must order!

Chef Oscar came out & introduced himself to our table. During our conversation, we could feel Chef Oscar’s passion about food, cooking & his team. Oscar’s cooking skills were evident in all the plates coming out of the kitchen; he has built flavor profiles that really set Toro apart in the Denver food scene (they’re dishes you can’t get anywhere else)!

For starters we had the Sweet Corn Empanadas, Angry Scorpion Roll, & Ceviche Amarillo.

The Sweet Corn Empanadas are made with aji amarillo, avocado purée, manchego cheese and chimichurri. We had two orders of these golden pockets of goodness.

Sweet Corn Empanadas

The empanadas were delicious flakey, buttery puff pastries filled with creamy, sweet corn. The avocado purée was my favorite to dip the empanadas in. The Sweet Corn Empanadas continue to be one of my absolute favorites at Toro.

The Angry Scorpion Roll is made with spicy tuna, crab, avocado, cucumber & sesame.

Angry Scorpion Roll

This sushi roll was a big hit with the girls and I - it was mild and fresh in flavor with a slightly spicy kick & a soft texture. A perfect, bite-sized piece of sushi heaven.

The Ceviche Amarillo is made with ahi tuna, aji amarillo, mango, cucumber & red onion.

Ceviche Amarillo

The Ceviche Amarillo was light & bright - delightfully acidic on the tongue. The aji amarillo had floral and fruity mago notes that complemented the fresh ahi tuna.

For entrees we had the Mojo Grilled Prawns, Salmon & Truffle Fries.

The Mojo Grilled Prawns are grilled and served on a skillet with shishito peppers & lemon on the side.

Mojo Grilled Prawns

The large prawns were seasoned by a smoky grill, garlic, and had a light spice. The citrus of the lemon zested and brightened up the meaty, savory shrimp in flavor.

The Specialty Salmon is made with achiote marinade, dashi braised bok choy, bacon morita chili jam, achiote ponzu & cauliflower puree.

Salmon

The Salmon was a piping hot, light & flakey fish that was mild in flavor with a tender bite. The bacon morita chili jam upped the flavor profile of the salmon significantly and added a sweet, caramelized flavor to the fish.

The Truffle Fries are made with cotija cheese, aji tartar & pickled chiles.

Truffle Fries

The cotija cheese was mild and tangy while the aji tartar and pickled chiles added a tropical flavor & medium heat that tasted terrific on the fries.

For dessert we had the La Bomba. La Bomba is made with a chocolate sphere, cookie crumbles, seasonal berries and assorted sorbets & ice creams.

La Bomba

La Bomba was a theatrical dessert and was like dessert nachos of sorts. The dessert was brought out in a half chocolate orb and then SMASHED onto our table. The dark chocolate pieces, berries, sorbet & ice cream were then drizzled with cream & fruit sauce. The dark chocolate chips were delicate, bitter and sweet & combined with all the other fillings nicely.

Toro, Latin Kitchen & Lounge - Bottomless Brunch

For Toro’s bottomless brunch we were seated in the main dining room and also enjoyed some time out on the patio (Toro has a lovely & spacious outdoor patio).

Bottomless brunch can be enjoyed on Saturday and Sunday - bottomless food & drink is $49 while bottomless food is $30. The bottomless brunch includes unlimited brunch plates and include all dishes from the starters, specialties and dessert sections + free-flowing brunch cocktails. To ensure fun for all, bottomless brunch must be enjoyed by the whole table.

For cocktails we had Bloody Mary’s & Lemonade Mocktails.

Bloody Mary

Lemonade Mocktail

To start we had the Smoked Swordfish Dip & the Assorted Seasonal Fruit.

The Smoked Swordfish Dip is made with aioli, cilantro, pickled jalapeño, lemon juice & plantain chips.

Smoked Swordfish Dip

The dip was nice and meaty in texture and the swordfish had a mildly sweet, ocean taste. The creamy dip's texture was great against the snap of the plantain chip.

The Assorted Seasonal Fruit is made with fruit, bee pollen & mango espuma.

Assorted Seasonal Fruit

The fruit was vibrant and fresh and the mango espuma added a nice tartness.

For Specialties we had the Eggs Benedict and the Enchiladas Rojas.

The Eggs Benedict is made with brioche, smoked swordfish dip & aji amarillo hollandaise sauce.

Eggs Benedict

The toasted brioche and two perfectly poached eggs made for a real breakfast treat. The aji amarillo hollandaise added a sunny, bright flavor to the eggs benedict.

The Enchiladas Rojas are made with corn tortilla, chicken, crema, salsa roja & chihuahua cheese. The enchiladas are my favorite brunch offering from Toro and are a must order!

Enchiladas Rojas

The Enchiladas Rojas were coated in tasty red sauce and filled with shredded chicken & melty cheese. They were warm and flavorful and the red sauce had a bold red pepper taste.

Huge thanks to Hotel Clio, Toro, Chef Oscar, Aly, Savannah Montalvo, & The Brandman Agency for hosting us!
