Mexican Wine & Hors D'oeuvres Tasting by Cafe Des Artistes, JW Los Cabos

The Relish the Heritage Festival included a Mexican Wine & Hors D'oeuvres Tasting hosted by Cafe Des Artistes at JW Los Cabos’ amphitheater.

The amphitheater was lovely (comparable to a modern open-air stadium); it was circular in shape & surrounded the wine tasting set up.

There was a mariachi band that played during the tasting. The mariachi had beautiful, traditional clothing (charro suits) with intricate embroidery. They kept the energy high & played so many fun songs. ¡Olé, bravo!

My favorite wine at the tasting was the Dos Buhos Moscato Pet-Nat. This wine was harvested early in the morning & then underwent a cold maceration for 24 hours. It fermented and aged for 9 months in a stainless steel tank.

The Dos Buhos Moscato Pet-Nat had a gorgeous golden, amber color. It smelled of exotic fruit and tasted floral with subtle notes of honey & white peach. I loved this moscato.

The passed hors d'oeuvres included Fresh Oysters, Huauzontle Gorditas, Foie Gras Cannellonis and Cured & Crispy Kampachi Fish.

The Fresh Oysters were served with fermented & chilled tomato juice.

The Fresh Oysters were beautifully presented & delicious to match. They were large & high in salinity. The tomato slush added a refreshing taste (comparable to chilled Gazpacho) against the briny, ocean taste of the oyster. More please!

The Huauzontle Gorditas were made with ash tempura.

These chubby, breaded ash orbs were filled with savory cheese (Ross LOVED these).

The Foie Gras Cannellonis were made with cured raicilla (agave) & rhubarb puree.

The Foie Gras Cannellonis were very decadent - the crisp exterior shells were filled with rich, buttery foie gras mousse. The high-fat content of the foie gras left a savory after-taste of butter & braised beef on the tongue.

The Cured & Crispy Kampachi Fish was served with cured cactus & chintextle pepper vinaigrette.

The Kampachi Fish was fatty with a clean flavor that had a subtle sweetness. The texture of the fish was smooth and it went really well with the crispy chicharron that it topped.
