Jovanina's Broken Italian

Jovanina's Broken Italian - sì, molto buono! We had the pleasure of dining at Jovanina's Broken Italian for dinner and I was shook Ross and I had never been here before. The ambience, service, & food (OMG THE FOOD) were excellent.

Jovanina's Broken Italian

We arrived at Jovanina's Broken Italian and headed inside. The aesthetic was rustic Italian with natural wood plank flooring, metal and wood furniture, brick walls (both red and white) and real, lit candles throughout the entire restaurant. We were seated downstairs which was sexy & intimate & felt like an Italian wine cellar. I absolutely loved this space!

Our server Todd was on point - he catered to us with speed & professionalism and his recommendations were everything.

I started off our meal with a sparkling wine per Todd's recommendation. I had a glass of the Bertrand-Delespierre, Enfant de la Montagne, Brut Premier Cru.

Bertrand-Delespierre, Enfant de la Montagne

This was a lovely start to the meal - the Champagne was rich in ripe, white fruit taste with a shot of acidity to the tongue.

It was time to eat and we were excited to see Jovanina’s Broken Italian fresh & modern take on Italian cuisine. For starters we had the Cheese & Charcuterie Platter and the Oak Ember Roasted Rainbow Carrots. The Cheese & Charcuterie Platter is made with Cured Meats & Cheeses, Beets, Almonds, Preserves, and Focaccia Bread.

Cheese & Charcuterie Platter

This was a solid Charcuterie Platter. The large pieces of homemade bread had nice crunchy crusts and were airy on the inside. The burrata was fresh and tasted of sweet cream.

The Oak Ember Roasted Rainbow Carrots are made with Carrot Butterscotch, Crunchy Seeds, Whipped Feta, Citrus & Torn Mint.

Oak Ember Roasted Rainbow Carrots

These were the best carrots Ross and I have ever had; they were tender & lightly charred. The purple carrots were sweet accompanied by a peppery taste. The golden carrots were a lovely shade and provided a burst of sweetness. The red/orange carrot was earthy & sweet. All three carrots paired beautifully with the creamy, whipped feta making for the ultimate sweet and savory dish.

For entrees we had the Amatriciana and the Bone-In Berkshire Pork Chop.

The Amatriciana is made with Spaghetti, Calabrian, Roast Red Pepper & Pancetta.

Amatriciana

This is hands down the best spaghetti I have ever had - my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The Amatriciana was presented in a gorgeous, red sauce with large pieces of roasted red pepper throughout. This pasta was rich with a burst of heat - that amazing punch in spice came from the calabrian chilis. The pasta was piping hot & nice and chewy in bite. Squisito!

The Bone-In Berkshire Pork Chop is served with Crispy Polenta, Braised Savoy Cabbage & Whole Grain Mustard Glaze.

Bone-In Berkshire Pork Chop

This was an exceptional cut of pork - the bone-in made for rich, meaty bites with nice marbling. The pork was tender and juicy and the mustard glaze added an incredible tanginess to the chop. Another amazing entree.

For my dinner cocktail I had the Berries n’ Cream. The Berries n’ Cream is made with Bourbon, Strawberry, Thyme, Clove, Lime & Egg White.

Berries n’ Cream

The Berries n’ Cream was an intriguing little number. There was a sturdy base of bourbon with a refreshing take brought out by the strawberry & lime.

For dessert we had the Affogato and the Olive Oil Cake. The Affogato is made with a rotating soft serve & a shot of espresso.

Affogato

Affogato literally means “drowned” in Italian which is appropriate as we drowned the ice cream in hot espresso before digging in with our spoons. This was a perfect after dinner pick-me-up; what a treat.

The Olive Oil Cake is made with Winter Citrus, Cara Cara Orange, Gelato & Pistachio Crumble.

Olive Oil Cake

The olive oil cake was delicious - extra light and fruity in flavor. There was great temperature contrast between the warm cake & cold gelato.

What a meal - Jovanina's Broken Italian has secured their spot as one of my new favorite restaurants.
