Toro, Latin Kitchen & Lounge

Día de los Muertos is coming up on November 2nd & what better way to celebrate than at Toro, Latin Kitchen & Lounge in Cherry Creek! Toro is located in the JW Marriott and offers free valet parking.

Día De Los Muertos or “Day of the Dead” is a two-day festival originating from Mexico that unfolds in an explosion of color and life-affirming joy aimed at demonstrating love and respect to the past while setting intentions for the future. From October 5 - November 2, Toro is launching a Dia de Los Muertos campaign where guests can partake in the Day of the Dead celebration with marigold-inspired dishes & beverages, a signature Spotify playlist, and artwork from a Mexico City-based artist. It’s a multisensory experience for everyone!

Upon arrival at Toro, a colorful ofrenda had been arranged in the dining room. The ofrenda included a lovely collection of objects placed on display for the Día de Muertos celebration.

General Manager, Alyssa Sturm was hospitable & attentive. She really values her staff as well as the restaurant and it shows. Our server, Steven, was effervescent, observant and had profound knowledge of the menu. He really made our meal special!

For drinks we had the Marigold Margarita and the Habanero Blood Orange Margarita.

The Marigold Margarita is made with Patron reposado / tonic / fresh marigold simple syrup / lime.

The Marigold Margarita was a modern cocktail; light & refreshing, served in a Collins glass and garnished with marigold.

The Habanero Blood Orange Margarita is made with Patron silver / patron reposado / house-made sour / blood orange habanero.

The Habanero Blood Orange Margarita was a little spicy and a little sweet. The sweet-tart blood orange paired well with the smoothness of the Patron. This cocktail is perfect for fall & winter.

The Amarillo Ceviche is made with Hamachi / aji amarillo / leche de tigre / mango / cucumber / red onion.

What a beautiful dish! The Amarillo Ceviche was light, clean and bright. The Aji Amarillo had floral and fruity notes that complemented the Hamachi, mango, cucumber and red onion. The Ceviche was delightfully acidic and SO good. Big thumbs up to Steven for the recommendation!

The Sweet Corn Empanada is made with aji amarillo / avocado purée / manchego cheese / chimichurri.

OMG. YUM. The empanadas were deliciously flakey, buttery puff pastries filled with creamy, sweet corn goodness. The smooth tanginess of the avocado purée and chimichurri both paired perfectly with the sweet empanadas. The Corn Empanadas were my favorite of the meal & I can't wait to go back to Toro and have more! Big thanks to Steven for the recommendation!

The Chile Ancho Confit is made with Pork belly stew / Star anise / sweet plantain / almonds / mole rosa.

Another beautiful dish! The combination of ingredients used in the Chile Ancho Confit tasted like Autumn - nutty, spicy with dark fruity undertones. The ancho chile had a sweet fruity flavor with mild heat. I loved the texture variation of this entire entrée; the meatiness of the pork belly, the soft skin of the chile and the crunch of the almonds blended together beautifully. A must order from the Día De Los Muerto menu!

The Braised Short Rib is made with Orange blossom puree / espadin-mezcal sauce / baby patipan / sun-dried chili ash.

The Braised short rib was tender and had a deep, beefy flavor. The meat was generously coated in glossy sauce that tasted of thick savoriness with a delicately smoky undertone.

The Pumpkin Bread Cake is made with Caramel "tacha" pumpkin / orange blossom milk / spiced pepitas / cinnamon ice cream.

The Pumpkin Bread Cake was packed with fall flavors of pumpkin spice & cinnamon. The cake had a nice, airy texture. Caramel "tacha" pumpkin is a traditional treat on the Day of the Dead Celebration!

Huge thanks to Toro, Latin Kitchen & Lounge and team for hosting us for the Día de los Muertos celebration! We will see you all again very soon!

Check it out babes and let them know that denv.her. sent you! xx
