Once we were situated in our room at The Maven, we headed to Blanchard Family Wines to kick off our Taste of Dairy Block experience.

Blanchard Family Wines was warm and inviting with exposed brick, wood beams, wine barrels and iron hardware throughout. They have two televisions situated above the bar which Ross was thrilled about so he could watch the game!

General Manager, Nick took great care of us and led us through our wine flight tasting. He had great knowledge to impart on each wine we were served.

Our wine flight consisted of the Rose of Grenache, the Rocky Mountain Rose, the Dairy Block Red Blend and the Whiskey Zin.

The Rosé of Grenache is from the Russian River Valley – 2020. This dry Rosé was light and enjoyable with subtle, sweet red fruit flavors.

The Rocky Mountain Rosé is from Blanchard Family Wines in Grand Valley. It's a blend of blend Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Verdot. The Rocky Mountain Rosé was tart and tangy with white grape flavor notes.

The Dairy Block Blend is from Blanchard Family Wines in Grand Valley and had aromas of blackberry & raspberry. The taste was sweet with ample tannin for balance. This wine was smooth and delicious - my favorite out of the entire tasting flight!

The Whiskey Barrel-Aged Zinfandel is from the Dry Creek Valley – 2020. This Zinfandel was aged in Deviation Distilling whiskey barrels. The Barrel-Aged Zinfandel was rich and full-bodied with notes of dried cherry and hints of butterscotch. The aroma of the whiskey really came through but was not overpowering in the taste profile of the Zinfandel. This was Ross’ favorite.

While we tasted our wines, we enjoyed a medium charcuterie board that had a daily selection of local meats and cheeses with crackers & accouterments. My favorite bite on the charcuterie board was a stellar blue cheese!
