Kyu Ramen

Who else craves a good bowl of ramen on a cold day? I know I do!

We visited Kyu Ramen for dinner and this hole in the wall is serving up a taste of Japan right here in Denver!

Our reservation was at 7pm and we walked in and we were seated right away. We highly recommend making a reservation as Kyu Ramen's space is small and on Friday night it was absolutely bustling (you want to make sure you get a table)!

Once seated, be prepared for a potential wait when it comes to drinks, etc as there are limited staff members. Our server - Abby - was a doll and got everything out to us as quick as she could. She was the only one manning the register and serving tables on Friday night. We didn't get our water and drinks until the food came out which was about 30 minutes after we were seated. Aside from the wait, everything was great!

For Small Bites, we had the Pork Buns, Bulgogi Buns, Gyoza, Cheese Wontons, and Poke Wraps.

The Pork Buns are made with braised pork belly in steamed buns with sauce.

Guys. We have to take a moment and appreciate how stuffed these buns are. Those are some THICK a** buns lol. & this starter was a hands down favorite of Cristine and I's. The fluffy bao buns were filled with tender, braised pork that had been marinated in a mixture of sauces and topped with spicy aioli. The Japanese spices in the marinade gave tons of flavor to each bite. The buns themselves were round, smooth and pillowy. The bao buns came to the table piping hot. 10/10

The Bulgogi Buns are made with thin, marinated beef in steamed buns.

More THICK fluffy buns; yes please! I had never had a bao bun filled with bulgoi beef and these buns were delicious. The bulgogi had a salty, sweet & savory flavor. The meat was tender and the soy sauce marinade was great. We'll definitely order the Bulgogi Buns again.

The Gyoza are pan fried pork dumplings.

The dumplings were solid.

The Cheese Wontons.

The wontons were nice and crunchy & stuffed with creamy cheese. The wontons were one of Cristine's favorite starters.

The Poke Wraps are made with poke tuna and avocado in lettuce wraps.

These wraps were a nice light option and a great starter for spring and summer months.

For Ramen, Cristine had the Spicy Miso and I had the Spicy Udon.

The Spicy Miso is made with chashu, bean sprouts & scallions in spicy miso broth.

SO. GOOD. The Spicy Miso had an exceptional blend of miso, chilies and chicken broth. The flavor notes here were of umami and deep earth with a slight sweetness & hint of spice. A must order when dining at Kyu Ramen! We both loved this ramen bowl.

The Spicy Udon is made with thick Japanese noodles, udon soup & spicy chicken tenderloin.

This was my first time having Udon and I really liked it! The Udon noodles were fat, chewy noodles. The sweet and spicy broth of the Spicy Udon was addictingly tasty; the broth had a nice, lingering hot pepper aftertaste. So for those of you looking for spice, the Spicy Udon Bowl is for you!

Big thanks to Katie and Kyu Ramen for having us in!
