The Brown Palace, Ship Tavern

You all know that feeling when you go somewhere and it feels like you have ARRIVED?

Like you instantaneously know when you are at that place you are guaranteed to have an extraordinary time and make amazing new memories? That's how I always feel whenever I get the opportunity to experience another one of The Brown Palace's many offerings. It's truly one of my favorite spots in all of Colorado and a historical jewel in the Denver social scene.

We were invited in to The Brown Palace for cocktails in the Atrium and then dinner at Ship Tavern so we knew our Friday night was going to be an amazing one - & that it was!

The Brown Palace never misses a beat when it comes to hospitality & customer service and they have gone to great lengths to ensure patrons and employees are safe during these unprecedented times. General Manager Darin Payne, the Atrium staff & our server Dean in Ship Tavern took care of us while we drank & dined. Each one holds that special Brown Palace sparkle & charisma that makes you want to stay for a while and then continue coming back to BP again and again! Most Brown Palace employees have been with the hotel for 5, 10, 20+ years! That tenure brings about extensive knowledge and a true passion for the company that will be felt by anyone who walks through The Brown Palace doors.

We were seated in the atrium to begin our evening and ordered our cocktails - A Mad Tea Party and a Isabelle Springer.

‘A Mad Tea Party' cocktail is made with chamomile-infused tito’s handmade vodka, brown palace rooftop honey, lemon & champagne. This honey colored cocktail was fruity with light floral notes and is a great cocktail choice for tea lovers!

The 'Isabelle Springer' cocktail is made with the botanist gin, st~germain and domaine ste. michelle brut. This cocktail is great for any gin lover and you'll taste muted floral notes with a distinct juniper hit.

There is a live Jazz Band that plays every Friday and Saturday in the Brown Palace Atrium from 4:30pm to 7:30pm - this is a great activity to partake in before dining at one of The Brown Palace restaurants! We were able to sip on our cocktails and enjoy the beats of the band while occasionally gazing up at The Brown Palace's eight-story atrium with its stained-glass ceiling.

John Kite has been playing the piano at The Brown for 2 decades and is a true feather in The Brown Palace's hat. He played with the jazz band in the atrium and then made his way over to Ship Tavern to play from 7:30pm-10pm (every Friday and Saturday)! We had no idea Ship offered live music as well so we were thrilled to head in and dine and continue listening to John. It was a lively meal with patrons singing along to several great pub tunes such Piano Man & Sweet Caroline.

Ship Tavern opened in 1934 making it one of the oldest bars in Denver. The decor is garnered from a collection of old sailing ships complete with a mast and crow's nest! V cool.

We started off our meal with Espresso Martinis.

DELISH! These were our favorite cocktails of the evening…we had several lol.

For appetizers, we went with the JUMBO LUMP CRAB CAKE and BROWN PALACE PRETZEL.

The JUMBO LUMP CRAB CAKE is served alongside Frisée Salad and Remoulade Sauce.

This crab cake gets our stamp of approval! The crab cake was thick and warm with large pieces of crab throughout. The frisée salad was a light & delightful addition to this app.

The BROWN PALACE PRETZEL is served with Beer Cheese Fondue and Whole Grain Mustard.

a5.jpg

This app is a true vintage pub staple. The pretzel is served fresh from the oven with a sprinkle of coarse salt & the beer cheese fondue and spicy whole grain mustard make for v tasty dipping combinations.

For our entrees, we had the KALE AND WILD MUSHROOM RAVIOLI and the PORCINI DUSTED SALMON & SHRIMP.

The KALE AND WILD MUSHROOM RAVIOLI is served with Tomatoes, Pea Shoots and EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and is vegan and gluten free.

Pasta-tively delicious! The rich raviolis are stuffed with earthy, meaty mushrooms and the assorted cherry tomatoes are bright and sweet adding a nice concentrated burst of flavor to the pasta.

The PORCINI DUSTED SALMON & SHRIMP is served with Fried Artichokes and Roasted Pepper Vinaigrette and we had TRUFFLE FRIES on the side.

The Salmon entree is elegant and tasty with a dash of smoky red-pepper pizazz. The porcini mushroom dusting highlighted the savory notes of the salmon really well. The roasted red pepper vinaigrette that generously covered the bed of fried artichokes and shrimp added a smoky, tangy touch to this entree - #NOM.

For dessert, our server Dean surprised us with fresh macaroons - they were SINFUL.

a7.jpg

These macaroons go back to the basics of this petit four and the puff pastries are filled with vanilla and then sprinkled with powdered sugar and an assortment of fresh berries. These are arguably the best macaroons I have ever had!

HUGE thanks to The Brown Palace for hosting us for another incredible evening! We had an amazing time. We will be back very soon and we better see you there Denverites! Your extraordinary experience at The Brown is waiting!
