The Modern, NYC
The Modern is located in midtown NYC, is a Michelin 2-star restaurant, and boasts garden views of the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) as well as a chic bar room area.
Ross and I ate in the Bar Room at The Modern for lunch and really enjoyed our meal.
“The lively Bar Room offers Chef Abram Bissell's vividly seasonal contemporary cooking à la carte, along with an award-winning wine program and carefully curated cocktails, beer, and spirits. Guests have the option of sitting in The Bar Room, the adjacent lounge, or at the vibrant 24-seat marble bar. Walk-ins are accepted in all three areas, and The Bar Room also welcomes reservations up to 28 days in advance.” - The Modern
We started with the Wedge Salad with Red Quinoa and Dill, Carrot Rillettes with Toasted Rye and Comté, and the Spicy Steak Tartare with Crispy Potatoes and Gribiche.
The Wedge Salad was delightful and a great start to our meal - it was interesting to see a wedge paired with quinoa and the flavor combination was solid.
The Carrot Rillettes ended up being Ross and I's favorite out of the entire meal - we got this appetizer suggestion from our knowledgeable waiter.
This appetizer was amazing and took us totally by surprise (we never would have ordered this without prompt!). The carrots with the comté cheese on the rye bread made a symphony of flavor that was totally unexpected and totally delicious. We'll definitely be going back to The Modern specifically for this app our next visit.
The Spicy Steak Tartare was bland and unexciting.
The crispy potatoes were a nice touch to the dish and the presentation was on point but the flavor just wasn't there - nothing really spicy about it.
For our entrees, we went with the Tagliatelle with 8 grams of White Alba Truffles and the Roasted Beef Tenderloin with Mirepoix and Marrow Toast.
Guys - white truffle season #drool. The Tagliatelle itself was a little tough and could have been cooked a tad longer but the truffles were spectacular and saved this dish.
The Roasted Beef Tenderloin with Mirepoix and Marrow Toast was tender and cooked very well - we would order this again!
